Snip removes the background right on your Mac, without uploading photos and without an internet connection. Add a color, gradient, blurred or image background, fit the subject to a canvas size and add a drop shadow or outline.

Yes, within a daily limit. On iPhone and iPad you can remove backgrounds from 3 photos a day for free, and on Mac you get 3 free edits a day. New backgrounds, outline and transparent PNG are free on both. PRO removes the daily limit and adds batch processing, plus templates and the graphic editor on iPhone and iPad.
On iPhone and iPad, the background stays transparent by default: tap Save, and Snip saves a PNG to Photos, or use Share to send it to Files or another app. On Mac, choose Transparent in the Background section and export as PNG — JPEG can’t keep transparency.
On Mac, yes: Snip removes backgrounds on your Mac without an internet connection. On iPhone and iPad, photos are processed on our server, so you need to be online.
